"AN ARTIST OF CORUSCATING VERVE AND CHARM"
GRAMMOPHONE MAGAZINE,  Awards Issue 2012

A musician of inexhaustible creativity, Via has collaborated with relevant figures of the international arts scene––like Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, or French painter Daniel Enkaoua––conceiving innovative recital pieces. His performances contribute to a genuine critical review of the form and contents of the standard concert experience.

Since 2003 he promotes artistic initiatives in the healthcare; first in Barcelona and since 2012 at Boston University, where he founded the ARTS LAB––a space for artistic social innovation at Boston Medical Center and nearby homeless shelters.

RÉSUMÉ

Born in Barcelona on February 5, 1980. He began his musical education at the age of ten. Three years later he has lauded by the press as “un nom qu’il faudra retenir!” [a name to remember!], at his official début in the French city of Agen.

Catalan pianist Moisès Fernández Via is seen as a singular artist, voluntarly distanced from the virtuoso soloist figure: “Music never provoked in me a feeling of importance or exceptionality. I live music as awareness and commitment, as expression when words fail in front of a world threatened by human and ecological conflicts. Asides from ambition, only emotional and intellectual honesty guide me along my path through Music.

He is an acclaimed winner of the Scarlatti International Piano Competition in Naples (Italy) and the Richmond Piano Competition in Boston; as well as a finalist to the A. Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association, the Kahn Career Award and the Pro Musicis International Award. Since 1993 he has performed extensively throughout Catalonia, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Morocco, Cyprus, Israel, Greece, México, the United States, Canada and China. Of special significance are performances at Palau de la Música Catalana and the Auditori in Barcelona, the
Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the Nouveau Siècle Hall en Lille, the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, the Auditorium Ciccolini in Naples, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Laieszhalle in Hamburg, the Centro Belgais in Portugal, the Culture Ministry in Rabat, the Felicja Blumental Music Center and the Enav Culture Center in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Music Center, the Pasydys Auditorium in Nicosia, the Palacio de Bellas Artes and Festival Cervantino in México, the Walton Arts Center in Arkansas, the Tsai Performance Center and the Jordan Hall in Boston, the CMC Theater in Ottawa, the National  Museum of Fine Arts in Québec and the China Conservatory in Beijing, among many others.

His debut recording “From Silence” under the label Verso received unanimous acclaim by the international press, being considered among the finest recordings of 2012. In 2015 Urtext Digital Classics published “Les mains nues / Bare Hands”––a fascinating fictitious dialogue between Lili Boulanger, Frederic Mompou and a commissioned work by David Chaillou.

He has studied piano, chamber music and conducting at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the Buchmann-Metha School of Music in Tel Aviv and Boston University—his work with Josefina Rigolfas, Imre Rohmann, Maria João Pires and Robert Levin being especially significant.  He has been recipient of the highest scholarships and grants such as the Culture Grant from the Catalan Government, the State of Israel Scholarship and the La Caixa Foundation Fellowship
